Today we spent the day in Potsdam. It was such a cool town!
So many interesting areas. A few of us want to go back and visit it again
because we enjoyed it so much. The highlight of the day was definitely Erick
Mendelsohn’s Einstein Tower. When it got into view, all of the architecture
majors were almost running to it. I still can’t believe we got to see that in
person. I had learned about this building in history class and never liked it
in pictures, but after seeing it in person I like it. It was much taller than I
realized, and much prettier.
Lauren, Connor, Will, and myself found a really great place
for lunch here too. We enjoyed some yummy food outside in a courtyard under
some umbrellas on our first day of nice weather here in Germany.
After that we spent the afternoon at the Sanssouci Park and
Gardens. It housed the old palaces of the Hohenzollern family, which were some
of the prettiest things I’ve ever seen. We spent the afternoon strolling
through the gardens, listening to lectures from Dr. Stuckey about the history
of these palaces. We took a tour of the Sanssouci Palace and walked through all
the gardens.
